IMDG – Code and Implications on Health and Safety

21st November 2022 - 25th November 2022

Rs100.000

Why this programme?

In a port-related environment, tons of dangerous goods are traded, handled and stored every day.

Dangerous goods can be a risk to health, safety, property and environment. Following international and national legislation, stakeholders are obligated to handle these goods in the safest possible way.

It goes without saying that complying to safety regulations has added value for the entire port community and undoubtably pays in the long run.

What?

This bespoke course will be given on 6 half days by Port of Antwerp’s expert Mr. Kurt Van Passen.

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG code) is the main code for the transport of dangerous goods by sea. This serves to guarantee the safety of the ship, cargo and crew when transporting dangerous goods.

It has been drawn up by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is part of SOLAS chapter 7. Requirements are also being added from MARPOL. For example, it is indicated which substances are harmful to the marine environment.

Topics handled during the online training:

    • Scope and implementation of the IMDG code
    • SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) convention on the maritime transport of dangerous goods
    • Danger properties and classification of dangerous goods
    • Marking and labelling
    • Requirements for the construction and use of packaging, IBCs, tanks
    • Documents
    • Stowage and segregation
    • Practical use of IMDG code

For whom?

The programme is directed towards safety inspectors responsible for dangerous goods, as well as people responsible for the general safety in the port. It would also benefit anyone with a need for knowledge in how dangerous goods are handled in a port related environment.
