Port Environmental Management and Sustainability

Ports are at the forefront of the global shift towards moresustainable industry, shipping and energy. As key players in these transitions, ports that proactively adopt sustainable practices are better equipped to meet evolving environmental regulations, manage operational risks and unlock new business opportunities. This course empowers professionals in the port sector with the knowledge, tools and real-world strategie examples to lead
sustainability initiatives in their own ports – enhancing resilience, efficiency and theirorganization’s reputation & competitive position in the sector.
What ?
This course focuses on sustainable development policy, green energy transition and environmental protection in a port context. Additionally, it shows how to become a frontrunner in sustainable solutions and how to effectively reduce environmental impact through targeted initiatives.
The programme consists of 3 modules:
1) Sustainable development in a port context
The workshops will focus on fostering sustainable development within port contexts through strategic partnerships and policy implementation. lt highlights the sustainability strategy of Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Participants will engage in workshops aimed at integrating sustainability principles into port strategies, emphasizing the alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through these sessions, attendees will gain practical insights and tools to drive sustainability efforts within their respective port operations. The participants will also play the Port Endeavor Game.
2) Port Environmental management
The workshops will provide port managers with a comprehensive understanding of environmental responsibilities, practices and regulatory frameworks. Topics include air quality monitoring, waste management, climate change adaptation and biodiversity protection. Participants will learn about
the implementation of ISO 14001 environmental management systems. By integrating this system, port authorities can effectively manage environmental risks, promote sustainability and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
3) Green Energy Transition
The transition to green energy presents both challenges and opportunities tor port authorities. By embracing sustainability as a core principle and adopting innovative technologies & practices, ports can not only mitigate environmental impact but also drive economie growth and social
progress.
This training wil/ also be supported by physical and online interactions trom Indian lectures / companies,
who are active in the private sector

The programme is suitable for port professionals and governmental bodies who are involved in the development of sustainable ports, port strategie plans and environmental policies, as well as HSEQ managers, officers and project & portfolio managers.

The course fee covers course material, airport pick-up / drop off, accommodation
( 5 nights in a twin sharing room) and all meals and beverages ( no GST included)
A single room can be provided at an additional cost of Rs 20 000 and is subject to availability
Please note that the registration fee must be received by JNPA-APEC in full; meaning all national and international taxes, bank costs etc. need to be covered by the participant.
Kindly take this into account when completing the transfer, as a deficit in the amount received by JNPA-APEC will mean admission to the course will be denied.
