Port Environmental Management and Sustainability

April 15 @ 8:00 am - April 19 @ 5:00 pm BST

Why this programme ?

Ports play an important role as a catalyst for the sustainable transition of industry, shipping, and energy. Ports adopting sustainable business models are prepared for upcoming legislation whilst creating a competitive advantage. The aim is to fulfil the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with respect to environmental protection, innovation, economic growth and added value of port activities.

What ?

This course focuses on sustainable development policy, green energy transition and environmental protection in a port context. Additionally, it shows how to become a frontrunner in sustainable solutions and how to effectively reduce environmental impact through  targeted initiatives.

The programme consists of 3 modules:

1) Sustainable development in a port context

The workshops will focus on fostering sustainable development within port contexts through strategic partnerships and policy implementation. It highlights the Sustainability strategy of Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Participants will engage in workshops aimed at integrating sustainability principles into port strategies, emphasizing the alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through these sessions, attendees will gain practical insights and tools to drive sustainability efforts within their respective port operations. The participants will also play the Port Endeavor Game.

2) Port Environmental Management
The workshops will provide port managers with a comprehensive understanding of environmental responsibilities, practices, and regulatory frameworks. Topics include air quality monitoring, waste management, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity protection. Participants will learn about the implementation of ISO 14001 environmental management systems. By integrating this system, port authorities can effectively manage environmental risks, promote sustainability, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

3) Green Energy Transition

The transition to green energy presents both challenges and opportunities for port authorities. By embracing sustainability as a core principle and adopting innovative technologies & practices, ports can not only mitigate environmental impact but also drive economic growth and social progress.

This training will also be supported by physical and online interactions from Indian lectures / companies, who are active in the private sector.

For whom ?

The programme is suitable for port professionals and governmental bodies who are involved in the development of sustainable ports, port strategic plans and environmental policies, as well as HSEQ managers, officers and project & portfolio managers.
